Youth of Promise

Learn! Grow! Have fun!

Our annual Youth of Promise program, established in 2001, is carefully designed to counteract the negative image at-risk youth hold of themselves and their world.  By engaging them in productive and interesting ways to spend their free time, we encourage our “Youth of Promise” to become responsible, active members of their communities.

Who:  Boys and girls, ages 12-18, from Rusk, Barron, Washburn, Polk, Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties, who are experiencing difficulties such as poor grades, depression, frequent outbursts of anger, inappropriate behavior, family conflicts or difficulty with social interactions.

Adult volunteers are also needed for leadership positions.

What:  Throughout the summer we focus on improving team interactive skills by providing a variety of activities under the close supervision of well-trained staff and volunteers.  Activities include:

  •  Large and small animal grooming and training.  THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE HORSEBACK RIDING.
  •  Woodworking (construction and maintenance included)
  •  Arts and crafts
  •  Horticulture and landscaping

When:  June 11, 2012 through August 13, 2012

Ten weeks of fun, Mondays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  You are still welcome even if you cannot make all sessions.  Please bring your own lunch.

$350 for the entire program, all summer!  There are no refunds once registered.

Included in the fee is a day trip to Valley Fair Amusement Park, Shakopee, MN, which will take place in early August.
